0. Introduction.

Hey look, it's ANOTHER May 2006 newsletter, just like the last one! Of
course, the last one was just a joke, and was ACTUALLY the April
newsletter, just like the one before it was ACTUALLY the March
newsletter, even though IT said it was APRIL! Really funny jokes all
around here.

So, what should the theme of THIS May 2006 DreamHost Newsletter be?
Maybe repetitiveness. I could repeat myself a lot, and that'd be REALLY
funny. Really funny jokes all around here.

It actually would sort of make sense too, because looking at all the
"new" "features" we're "adding" "this" month, they're all REALLY old
things we're just re-hashing. Or somehow related to repeating in another
way. Or I "guess" I could make the whole thing like a freaking "Zagat"
review with totally "nonsensical" quoting of "unrelated words".

Really funny jokes all around here.

########################################################################
1. OMG. Email logins with user@domain.com!

WHOOSH! What a blast from the past! For those of you who've been with us
for the LONG term, I mean WAY back, like, pre-blog, pre-777, pre-"crazy
overselling", you may remember (from the September 2005 newsletter) we
had a short-lived "Beta" test of being able to log in to check your
email with your FULL email address, instead of m#######! (This is of
course just for "mailboxes" on our system .. you can't check forwarding-
only email addresses on our system still... they still "only forward"!)

I say short-lived because it was short-lived. It didn't work and we had
to turn it back off "tout de suite."

Well, in the esteemed words of Emilio Estevez, "That was then, this is
NOW!" Because, effective today, we are ONCE again doing a NEW "Beta"
test of logging in with your FULL email address for email! No more
"silly" m####### logins, or "crazy" m####### logins! It's "all" gravy
with "user@domain.com" .. and just to be clear, it's not just the "user"
part either.. it's the full thing: "user@domain.com"!

Of course, if it's not working, we'll probably have to pull it again.
But THIS time "we have" great hope it's here to stay. And if it's gone
tomorrow, in the esteemed words of Martin Sheen, "That is then, and this
is NOW!"

########################################################################
2. No more CPU minute restrictions!

"Crazy overselling!" What's that all about? Well, if you like to read,

   http://blog.dreamhost.com/2006/05/18/the-truth-about-overselling/

will explain it all! And see that little "post-script" at the "bottom"?

Well, we're sick and tired of people being sick and tired of getting
disabled for "cpu minute" overages! ESPECIALLY when we don't even have
any real set "cpu minute" levels for plans, or a tab on our web panel
where you can track your usage.

So "guess" what?! We've changed our "cpu minute" "policy" "for the
better!" We no longer HAVE any limits on "cpu minutes". Maybe it's just
semantics, and maybe it's just "crazy overselling", but as long as your
site or scripts aren't causing problems with the server, you are IN THE
CLEAR!

Let's say you're not IN THE CLEAR though.. don't worry! We'll work with
you! We're adding a BUNCH of new servers to help "get" the average load
per web server down, and we'll work with high-load people to get their
usage down or their butts onto a new server that can handle it. What a
sweet web host.. let no one accuse US of "crazy overselling," and we
won't accuse THEM.

########################################################################
3. Announcement list email double-typing!

We're already kind of "scraping the bottom of the barrel" for features,
which is why I'm repeating everything I say. But hey, if you didn't like
scraping the bottom of the barrel, you wouldn't be a DreamHost customer,
would you? "Would you?" If you didn't like scraping the bottom of the
barrel? Be repeating everything I say?

Okay, so, next AWESOME feature: You can now have users re-type their
email address when they "choose" to subscribe to an announcement list of
yours from your website. Just add this to your HTML form:

	  <input type=hidden name=req_address2 value=1><input name=address2>

And you're done! No more stupid "typos" from "stupid stupid-heads!"

Pretty sweet. We really went all out for this "one."

########################################################################
4. Bye bye .la for real!

Speaking of going all "out for this one," we are now ALL OUT of .la
domains, literally. As we mentioned WAYYYYYYYYYY back in February, and
WAYYYYYYYYYYY back AGAIN in March, it "is" bye bye .la for real real,
bye bye, real, for .la!

If you had a .la "domain REGISTERED with us (HOSTED is another story..
you can still HOST .la domains" with us, just like every other domain,
for now and forever), you've already gotten an email with instructions
on how to manage and renew your domain from now on.

Just in CASE you read the DreamHost newsletter but not the rest of your
email, here's a re-cap. This is in no way newsletter "filler" because we
in "no way" really spent all month getting user@domain.com emails
"working."

Just go to http://www.la/ and manage your domain from there! It's now
being run by" CentralNIC" and not "us!" We are not running it, nope. Not
us.
