It's easy to modify the domain contact information that is publicly accessible (via "Whois" lookups).
Simply check off the checkbox next to each domain you want to modify, and then click the "Modify Checked" button. If you don't see a domain in the list, that means you didn't register your domain with us! In that case, you'll have to go to the registrar you originally used to register your domain!
Then you just need to enter the new contact information you'd like to make public, check off which contacts it is for ("owner", "technical", "administrative", and/or "billing") and submit the form! The changes will take effect within 20 minutes in the public WHOIS database!
Do I have to put my real information in the public WHOIS database?
Yes and no. Technically, you have to, but the problem is any information put in the public whois registry is completely public.
Because of this, there's a very good chance that any information you put out there will get on lots of email and snail mail marketing lists. You may want to put an email address you don't check very much for the contact info.
WE don't care what information you use. We use your Web ID information to contact you about things such as domains expiring or technical issues. So whatever you want to put in the WHOIS database is okay with us. It does say in the Registration Agreement you agree to when registering that you will put real information there.
NOTE: If you use false information for your email addresses, you may miss important information regarding the status of your domain registration (such as expiration warnings, etc.)
What is the WHOIS database?
This database allows you to instantly get information on a given domain name, including who registered it, when it was created, who to contact at that domain, etc. This is also a useful way to see if a domain you have registered has been registered by Internic yet.
When you try to register a domain with us, we look it up in that database to see if it is taken or not. When you register your domain with us, the contact information you supply will NOT be publicly available through the WHOIS service, by default. We give you, by default, a privacy-enabled (anonymized) email address for the Registrant and Admin contacts that redirects to the email address of your chioice. You can override this choice deliberately during registration, if you prefer the contact info to be public. This default domain privacy is FREE.
How do I update my dns (domain name servers)?
It's easy to change the domain name servers tied to your domain registration record. These servers basically tell the rest of the Internet where your site is hosted, so it's important to have these correct! Nothing will work with your domain if they aren't set right!
Simply check the checkbox next to each domain you want to change the nameservers for, and then click the "Modify Checked" button. If you don't see a domain in the list, it means you didn't register it with us! In that case, you'll have to go to the registrar you originally used to register your domain!
Then you just need to enter the new name servers you'd like to use for your domain in the fields shown. The 3rd and 4th name servers are optional, most hosts don't actually provide one. The changes will take effect within 20 minutes of you submitting the form, however it can take one to two days for the new DNS information to become available to everyone on the Internet. You must be patient when changing DNS servers!
