0. Introduction.
It's the world's most DreamHosty of newsletters, coming at you once
again from the back of the Big Blue Bus in mid-December 2009: The Happy
November DreamHost Newsletter!
And, as seems to be a recurring theme with these things, I can't really
think of a good theme for this month's newsletter. Really, I can think
of a few, but I'm not sure which one to USE:
A. The holidays.
B. Our recent spate of network troubles.
C. Not being able to come up with a theme.
or the old stand-by
D. Poop.

1. NEW! We are done moving!
I'm still not sure which theme to use, and it's got me pooped.
However, just in time for the holidays, I do have some rather joyous
news: we are done moving!
Let me repeat that again for those of you reading this in a noisy
bathroom: we are done moving!
http://blog.dreamhost.com/2009/11/24/thanksgiving-travel/
Now, let me explain what that actually means... we are done _physically_
moving data centers. And I don't just mean this recent move, I mean, for
a long, long time.. like hopefully at least a decade!
(We've still got about 70,000 accounts to _metaphysically_ move to our
new-and-improved hosting cluster that we've been slowly working on since
May of 2008, but that's actually gotten to be a pretty slick process and
we're taking it really really slowly. As in, we're not doing another
single person until sometime next year!)
I don't want to repeat the entire blog post above, but the executive
summary is just that:
A. We've moved data centers a LOT over the last ten years.
B. We bought a large stake in our current data center, Alchemy.net.
C. We finished consolidating everything into Alchemy this last week.
and finally:
D. The network blips that have been occurring were (unplanned)
consequences of this consolidation. We're really really really done now!
########################################################################
2. NEW! Dedicated Servers!
Looking for a not-even-last-minute holiday gift for that system
administrator in your life? Not sure if they'd appreciate toilet paper
with Bill Gates' picture AGAIN this year? Stick with the theme of this
newsletter and go with a super-reliable Dedicated Server from Alchemy!
http://blog.dreamhost.com/2009/12/04/holiday-shopping/
For only $49.95/month you can get a dedicated server with:
A. Processor: 2.4GHz Quad Core
B. Memory: 4GB
C. Hard Drive: 250GB SATA

D. Bandwidth: 1TB / month
How do they/we do it? It's the same hardware we used to use for shared
hosting accounts before this last move! Guaranteed to be stable since
until last week they'd been running for years for as close to 24/7 as
DreamHost can manage!

It's enough to buy a quarter of a DreamHost T-Shirt!
########################################################################
3. NEW! The DreamHost Shop!
DreamHost T-Shirt? ARE there such things?
Not in our office. WE have a dress code.
But YOURS might not! And if you're looking for another not-so-last-minute
gift idea for the web designer in your life, or you just want something
to poop on in the .0000% chance we ever have another moment of downtime:
https://panel.dreamhost.com/?tree=home.swag
is the place to go!
All that is is a "PrintFection" shop offering all manner of shirts, bags,
cups, mugs, cutting boards, and mouse pads with the more than SIXTY retro
DreamHost logo that won our recent contest:
http://blog.dreamhost.com/2009/11/18/and-the-winners-are/
You probably should order today if you want to be guaranteed delivery by
of-no-particular-religious-significance December 24th:

########################################################################
4. NEW! End your own PS!
Of course, you've always been able to add your own DreamHost Private
Server via our web panel:
https://panel.dreamhost.com/?tree=vserver.provision
Or programmatically via our API:
https://panel.dreamhost.com/?tree=home.api
But to end one, you had to contact support. UNTIL this holiday season
that is!
You can now end a PS at any time and via the way it began, either the
panel or our API... but the question is why would you ever want to?
A. You're trying to save money for some DreamHost t-shirts.
B. DreamHost regular shared hosting is now super stable.
C. You've got a new personal life theme of "no awesome VPS hosting".
or
D. Never trust a fart.

I can't believe I made it all the way to the final section of the
newsletter, the DreamHost Site of the Month, without ever deciding on a
theme!
At least I can be content hunt-and-pecking out this last section on the
can, with my eggnog and candy corn, reveling in the lack of any more
downtime, and learning to play the piano with this month's winner:
http://www.thepianoman.info/
Remember, if you've got a:
A. Flash-based web designer portfolio site.
B. Flash-based photography portfolio site.
C. Flash-based flash portfolio site.
or
D. Flash-based flash flashy flash flash.
You should submit it for potential newsletter infamy at:
http://panel.dreamhost.com/?tree=home.dhsotm
Just don't quit your day job.
