The first thing to check is if there are any Security Alerts for TWiki, and if there are, follow their instructions on how to patch or upgrade your installation. Very often the source of a high CPU load will be a hacker intrusion via an unpatched web application.

It could also be that your TWiki installation is being spammed heavily. If this seems to be the problem, the TWiki website has a great article on how to eliminate this problem, as well as community comments with a great many useful suggestions.

If the above doesn't solve your issue, you can also try CacheAddOn, which is designed specifically to reduce CPU load. TWiki's native approach is to support mod_perl and SpeedyCGI but FastCGI (which Dreamhost recommends) is not supported (see FastCGI). We do not allow you to run mod_perl or speedyCGI and we have no plans to suppport the Virtual Dedicated Server configuration.

If TWiki is still using a lot of resources, it could be that your wiki has become very popular. While our shared hosting servers are very good at handling quite a bit of traffic from our customers, there does come a point sometimes where a site will outgrow shared hosting and need to move onto the next step - a shiny new Dedicated server!
