Talk:Transfer your hosting to us
From DreamHost
I'd like to see some mention in this page about setting up email addresses, aliases, and discussion lists. I have mailman lists on my old hosting site that I'd like to replicate on the new server before I cut over the DNS entries. How can I set up the lists ahead of time? Note that I don't care about archives, just subscription status. Bigbrotherinlaw 14:15, 9 Oct 2006 (PDT)
I have my Registration at one company and my Hosting at another company This section presumes that I want to transfer my Registration. What if all I want to do is transfer my hosting. Bigbrotherinlaw 14:19, 9 Oct 2006 (PDT)
It would be nifty if the article linked appropriately to the signup page at https://dreamhost.com/signup/ -Mattymatt 20:46, 12 Feb 2007 (PST)
--- I'd like to see a clearer mention of Dreamhost prices and also if the registration is automatically renewed on transfer Thanks - Jmontano 13:09, 18 Feb 2007 (EST)
Direct file transfer using wget
The use of wget to transfer files from your old host to DreamHost needs to be woven into the article. This should be done at the same time that the article is majorly refactored to not contain overwhelming diagrams and duplicate content :) --Daniel Beardsmore 15:13, 19 Feb 2007 (PST)
I'll second the need for wget in this article. Wonderfullyrich 15:13, 25 March 2008 (PDT)
I'm a little confused about this step:
- 2.3 I have my Registration at one company and my Hosting at another company
It says to set up a free subdomain, ie me.dreamhost.com. So after I tell my registrar to look at Dreamhost's DNS servers, how does Dreamhost know to point www.mydomain.com to me.dreamhost.com until I actually have www.mydomain.com hosted at Dreamhost and pointing to my files (especially if I have more than one domain)?
