Regarding the "How do I share website access with another FTP user?", a sensible approach in cases where you have multiple people having to work on a "site" is to create a user for that project. Bit of PITA to manage users when you have so much hosting space and ability to spark sites/projects, but... ;)

I can't?

Basically, you can't. In unix systems, files are all owned by exactly one user, and it's not secure to allow other users full read/write access to them all. If you really want multiple people to have all the same access to the same files via FTP, the best thing to do is create one FTP user for all the stuff you want to share, and just use that same login info among all the people who need to work on the site.

This sounds inaccurate. What about setting group permissions? --Andrewbootlegger 15:03, 9 March 2008 (PDT)

Proftpd on dreamhost chroots FTP users to their home directory. This is possible using SFTP, but not FTP.

What can we do in this situation: People upload images and docs from all over the world. Those files get moved into an editorial area. If they need a technical edit, they get moved to that area for editing. Then they get moved back to the editorial area for final layout. The editorial area cannot be accessible to all of the people submitting docs and images. It's extremely time consuming to download their images and u/l them to editorial. A manager needs to be able to drag and drop them into the various areas without giving access to everything to the world. We can remap a subdirectory to a user, but the subdirectory does not have limited access. --KF 00:05, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
