Merge Database

As mentioned in the April 2008 Newsletter

If you're an older customer and you'd like to combine your databases onto the same server (the benefits of which being you can manage them all from one hostname, with the same username, which means having just one login to phpmyadmin, and being able to do selects across databases too I suppose), you can now do so from the Manage MySQL area:
https://panel.dreamhost.com/?tree=goodies.mysql
Just scroll down until you see a button that says something like:
"Merge all databases and hostnames on A:B to X:Y"
and then click that! The merging won't be immediate, and in fact is done manually (to make sure everything goes smoothly) by one of our database dudettes in the middle of the night-o de Mayo!

After you click on the Merge Databases button, you will be given an opportunity to cancel. It will say something like this:

Moving databases is not an instantaneous process. Based on the size of your databases, it can take up to several hours to complete. You will receive an email at (YourEmailAddress) when the move begins and another when it is completed.
During the move:
your sites that use moving databases may not work properly.

changes that you make to databases from our panel may not take affect. the move cannot be cancelled.

After clicking through that you will see the following in the Panel, giving you another opportunity to cancel:

Pending Merges.png

You have pending database merges!
All merges happen at midnight Pacific time.
Although the process should be relatively seamless, there will be a brief period of database inaccessibility.
Please cancel your merge(s) now if this timing is bad for you!
Pending Merge: All databases from YOUR_OLD_DATABASE onto YOUR_NEW_DATABASE. Cancel it?

At or after midnight, an automated script will run and consolidate your databases onto one server. If it takes more than a few hours, the script had some kind of problem. It might fail silently :-(.If that happens, please contact Support directly to do the move manually.
