Features lost from the old web panel
Snag: Since 2004's removal of the Mail section, there's no complete list of mailboxes, no command to add just a mailbox, nor command to delete just a mailbox. Below are some workarounds.
To see a most-complete list of mailboxes available
- Click Users, Passwords and look under Mailboxes.
- Note: this list omits any mailbox that is also a FTP or shell user. Such can be found under Users, Passwords, Users, indentifiable by the fact that it is on the same machine as mailboxes listed under Mailboxes. Such should not be confused with mailboxes that have separate FTP users of the same name. These are not omitted from the Mailboxes list.
To add just a mailbox
- Click Mail, Addresses, [ Create a new email address ] and then on that new address click [ delete ].
To delete just a mailbox
- Ensure that no address is delivering to it. To do this go to Mail,Addresses and look for any address that has the mailbox name in its Login field. For each one that you find, click [ edit ], and uncheck also deliver :to this DreamHost mailbox:. Ensure there is at least once entry in will be delivered to these email addresses:, and click Edit Address (sic).
- On Mail, Addresses, click [ Create a new email address ] and type in a temporary address to use, for any domain.
- Under "also deliver to this DreamHost mailbox:" select the mailbox you wish to delete. (Some mailboxes can fail to show; if so then contact Support.).
- Click Create Address.
- On Mail, Addresses, on the new address, click [ del ].
Addresses
This section provides options to create, edit, disable, and delete email addresses across all domains within a plan.
If you wish to forward all mail that comes to one of your domains to a different address, use the 'catch-all' address feature. Select the domain you wish to forward mail from on the left, click 'show', and then select "bulk edit your forwarding-only addresses". In the box that comes up enter the following:
*@domain-that-mail-will-come-to.com the-email-address@that-you-check.com
There can be more than one destination address. E.g. to forward to 2 different destination addresses foo@destination.com and bar@destination.com:
receiver@domain-that-mail-comes-to.com foo@destination.com bar@destination.com
Webmail
This area allows you to configure Webmail access for all of your domains. To change the options for a particular domain, click its edit link. On the next page, there are four settings:
- Disable Webmail altogether?
- This option does exactly what it asks. Checking this doesn't mean that you can't check your e-mail at all, only that you can't check it via SquirrelMail.
- Webmail URL
- The Webmail URL sets the domain you use to access the webmail application. The default is
webmail. - Login Image URL
- If you would like to customize the appearance of your webmail login screen, enter the URL of an image here.
- Login Organization Name
- This allows you to change the text below the image.

Keyword Filter
There are two different ways you can set up keyword filters for your mailbox accounts on our systems.
- Via the control panel (if you have control panel access) under (MAIL > EMAIL FILTER).
- By changing the options using your mailboxes account (http://mailboxes.YOURDOMAIN.COM/). NOTE: Substitute "YOURDOMAIN.COM" with your actual domain name or you will go to the wrong site! Use your e-mail address and password to log in. If you don't have control panel access then this is the way to go.
Both methods work exactly the same and are interchangeable.
NOTE: Of course if your e-mail client supports keyword filtering (most modern mail clients do now days) then you can apply filters there as well. Since our filters operate on the server side they will be applied before any local filtering done by your mail client software.
NOTE: Forwarding only addresses (aliases) cannot process keyword filters (or junk mail filtering either).
NOTE: If you have our Junk_Mail filtering enabled for your domain that is processed before keyword filtering.
Junk Filter
DreamHost's junk filter keeps junk mail from reaching your inbox. The filter can be enabled on any domain that does not have a catch-all address.
To enable the junk filter, click Enable Filter for the domain you want protected.
