Can I move services from one account to another?

Yes and No. Moving services such as user accounts and domains from one account to another is a complicated process if the two accounts in question are in different clusters. You must contact support and ask wether a move is a "cross cluster" move or not ( if mx records are different, then move is cross cluster ). If not, then we can move your services for a nominal fee. If a move IS accross clusters, then you must re-create all of your users on the recieving account. You must also transfer the data from the old user accounts to the new user accounts (including mail). Use a sub-domain of dreamhosters.com to setup your website on the new account. Once you have completed this process, contact support and we will move your existing domains over to the new account. If the domain in question is not registered with us, you can complete the process without contacting support by deleting the domain from the old account and then adding it to the new account.

Why are your prices so low?

You may worry that we're not offering a full and complete hosting package. How else could we afford to have prices less than half of what our competition offers? Not so!

Our prices are low because we keep our costs low. How?
  • By automating as many tasks as possible
  • By not paying for advertising --- instead we advertise on our free guestbook server, Dreambook.
We pass these savings on to our customers --- by keeping our expenses low, we are able to offer a variety of high-quality services at less than half of many of our competitors' prices!

What is your 97 day money-back policy?

I've been hosting with Dreamhost for two weeks now, and have been happy with your service. However, for various reasons I would like to cancel my Dreamhost account. My understanding is that I can get a refund. Is this true?

Our Guarantee

DreamHost's success is highly dependent on the satisfaction of our customers. A surprising amount of our business is gained through word of mouth advertising - happy customers are often more than willing to let their friends know how they feel about our services. We feel that we provide a great service for a reasonable price, and the vast majority of our customers apparently feel the same way.

However, there is always the possibility that someone may not be fully satisfied with the service they receive, or may have changed their minds about hosting altogether.

With this in mind, we have provided a 97 day money back guarantee to our customers. If you wish to cancel your account within the first 97 days, for any reason whatsoever, you can close your account via the "close account" link online at our Billing > Manage Account area! That will cancel your account and refund the entirety of your payment (with some exceptions: see below).

Note that while hosting is fully guaranteed, domain registration is not - we are unable to refund those fees. Also, any additions to existing accounts (add-ons, disk space/bandwidth overage, etc) do not fall under the guarantee, only plans and add-ons purchased by new users - basically, we have provided this so that new customers can 'test drive' without risk.

Also note that we are only able to offer this refund on credit card payments. On check or money order payments we will do our best to refund the funds if you contact us before the payment is deposited. We can offer no refunds on check or money order payments that have been deposited. Payments toward dedicated servers are exempt from this policy and are not refundable.

I don't want to give my credit card information over the Internet.

We'd like to stress that our encrypted SSL connection keeps your credit card information completely safe. While we don't offer telephone or fax-based technical support, note that even if we did, we'd be entering your credit card number into the exact same SSL-protected forms that you see on our website.

Do you have gift certificates?

We sure do!

If you are a DreamHost customer, you can use the Account Control Panel to purchase gift certificates for DreamHost services. The amount is conveniently charged to your credit card.

To order a gift certificate:
  1. Log into the Account Control Panel, and click on the Gift Certificate link under the Home tab.
  2. Click on the Add a gift certificate link. <img src = "./images/illustrations/addgiftcert.gif">
  3. Enter the amount of the gift certificate. <img src = "./images/illustrations/certamt.gif">
  4. Choose which credit card you wish to use for the purchase, and press the Charge button. It's that simple! <img src = "./images/illustrations/choosecard.gif">
  5. After your charge has been approved, the system will generate a gift certificate for you to print out and give!
Unfortunately, at this time, only current customers paying by credit card can use the web panel to purchase gift certificates.

Non-customers cannot purchase gift certificates at this time, but we soon hope to offer this option as well.

Updating your contact information

I'd like to double-check my email and mailing address, making any corrections as necessary. Can I do that?

You sure can!

How?

You can change your contact information at the Account Control Panel. Here's how:
  1. Click on the link to https://panel.dreamhost.com/id. <img src = "./images/illustrations/idndn.gif"> The link is located at the top of the page: <img src = "./images/illustrations/newidbar.gif">
  2. You should be logged in automatically. But if you're not, enter your username and password as prompted, then press the Log In button: <img src = "./images/illustrations/ndnid_login.gif">
  3. Click on the words Contact Info in blue. This will take you to the contact info page. <img src = "./images/illustrations/contactinfo.gif">
  4. Select a field to edit by clicking on one of the links below. You can also click on "All Primary" to edit more than one field. <img src = "./images/illustrations/contactinfo.gif">

Why you should keep your information current:

Why keep your contact information up to date? Well, if we need to get ahold of you in order to let you know about specific issues that may affect your site, we'll need valid information to contact you with. If for some reason we cannot process a payment or encounter a problem specific to your account, we'll need to have a place where we can contact you.
