Anything you need to do with email addresses (or "mailboxes") at any of your domains hosted with DreamHost, you do here!

That includes creating new email addresses (forwarding-only or ones tied to a DreamHost mailbox), as well as changing or removing existing ones.

You can also change a mailbox password, disk usage limit, name, or inbox rotation settings from this panel!

Keep in mind that any DreamHost mailboxes you create have exactly one primary email address associated with them. If you'd like to have other email addresses also deliver to that DreamHost mailbox, just create them as forwarding addresses to that primary email address.

Don't worry, you can change the primary email address for a mailbox at any time just by clicking the "edit" link for it! And our system is nice and automatically updates any other addresses that forwarded to that mailbox for you!

Why is a mailbox struck out?

When a mailbox in your list is struck out, that signifies that it still exists but currently mail is not being delivered to it.

You can enable mail delivery to it by clicking "edit" for that address and then checking off the checkbox for "also deliver to this DreamHost mailbox".

You can disable delivery to a mailbox by clicking the "dis" link for that address.

How do I change my mailbox "name"?

You can change the name associated with your mailbox through our web panel's "Mail > Addresses" area. Just click the "edit" link next to the mailbox you wish to rename and then you'll be able to change it. This name is just for your own reference when you set up email addresses, and not used anywhere else.

You can't change a mailboxes actual username (something like "m1234567"). That value is completely hidden anyway and is only used in your email program's configuration. Nobody should really even know that username except for you anyway! If you want to change the primary email address itself that goes to a mailbox, you can do that from that same link! And don't worry, our system will automatically update any other addresses that were forwarding to that primary address to the new value!

Note, when using Webmail (at http://webmail.yourdomain.com/) you should log in with the email address (joe@yourdomain.com), not the mailbox name (m1234567@yourdomain.com).

Also note, users can manage their OWN mailboxes (including changing their password, setting their filters, etc..) at http://mailboxes.yourdomain.com/ .. it's totally DreamHost-neutral site too, so your users won't even know it's hosted with us. Cool!

How do I create a new email address?

It's really easy!

Assuming you've of course already got a hosting plan with DreamHost, all you do is go to the "Mail > Addresses" area of our web panel and click the "create a new email address" link.

From there, you then have to choose what address you'd like (note, there is a special mailbox name .. "*". If you use that, it will catch all email @yourdomain.com that doesn't already have another email address set up for it. This is a great way to get TONS OF SPAM.), and at what domain name (assuming you have more than one with us). If a domain name doesn't appear in the select box, mail service isn't set up at DreamHost for it!

You then have the option of setting the address to either delete all mail sent to it (with or without a bounced message to the sender), or have it actually deliver the mail. You probably usually want to deliver the mail!

Assuming you want to deliver the mail somewhere, you have two non-exclusive options. Have us forward the mail to any valid email address in the world and/or have it delivered to a new "mailbox" with DreamHost. (If you want to deliver mail to an existing DreamHost mailbox, just set up forwarding to the primary email address tied to that mailbox. Our system will realize this is a DreamHost mailbox and not do any unnecessary routing!)

To deliver to any valid email address in the world, simply enter them in the relevant text box, one per line.

To create a new DreamHost mailbox, fill out the rest of the information you see on that page. (Yes, the periodic inbox rotation options are required!)

When you're done, click Create Address!

Your new email address will begin working within approximately one hour (assuming your domain is already up and working with DreamHost of course!). If you've created a new mailbox, your login information will be displayed on the next screen. Keep in mind that your incoming and outgoing mail servers are both just mail.yourdomain.com.

If you've created a new DreamHost mailbox, you can access your email via any POP or IMAP client, including our webmail service!

How do I change my mail password?

You can change any of your passwords via the Users > Passwords area of our web panel or via our "Mailboxes" service, available at http://mailboxes.YOURDOMAIN.COM/.

Through the Web Panel

Go to Users > Passwords and find the mailbox whose password you want to change, and then enter your old password followed by the new password twice. If you don't know the old password, you can have it emailed to you (or even have us generate a new random password for you and email that to you).

Through "Mailboxes.yourdomain.com"

End-users themselves can log in at mailboxes.yourdomain.com (they don't need access to the DreamHost panel.. in fact we are completely hidden from them there), and then there's a simple form right there to change their password (as well as a lot of other stuff!).

Please note that when you change your password it will take about 15 minutes - 2 hours before it is updated on our server! So don't stress out if you can't log in with the new information right away!

The only restriction on mailbox passwords is that they be 6 or more characters long.

Note: shell users also have mail access.. but the passwords are independent of each other! For convenience, they start out the same, but if you change your mailbox password for a shell user, the shell/ftp password does not change!
