There are two sorts of Domain transfers:- Transferring your Domain Registrar.
- Transferring your Domain Web Host.
You don't NEED to have registered with us to host with us (or use our free parking/redirection services), and you don't NEED to host with us if you've registered with us! The two things are completely independent!

Why would I want to transfer my domain registration?
You might want to transfer your domain to a new registrar for a number of reasons:
- The new registrar is cheaper.
- The new registrar provides a better interface to manage your domains.
- The new registrar provides better technical support.
- The new registrar offers more or better value-added services.
- The new registrar is just cooler overall!
All of these reasons sure seem to apply to switching to us!
How do I transfer my registrar from or to DreamHost?
Transferring registrars is done by contacting the new registrar and telling them you wish to move your domain registration over to them.
To tell Dreamhost you wish to transfer a domain to Dreamhost, you simply have to use the "Request Transfer" form at the "Domain > Transfer" area. This will result in you getting an email at the admin contact address for your domain within a few hours. If you follow the instructions in that email, you'll be able to approve the transfer to Dreamhost!
To transfer your registration from Dreamhost, you should just contact the new registrar. They will give you further instructions. Once Dreamhost has received the transfer request from them, Dreamhostwill notify you and you should return to the "Domain > Transfer" area and click either the "Approve" or "Deny" links that will have appeared on the page for that domain.
How do I transfer my hosting from or to Domainitron.com/DreamHost?
To move your domain to a new hosting provider is simply a matter of changing the name servers associated with your domain registration! Your new host will be able to provide you with the correct values for these name servers. Ours are:
- ns1.dreamhost.com 66.33.206.206
- ns2.dreamhost.com 208.96.10.221
- ns3.dreamhost.com 66.33.216.216
To change your name servers, you have to go to the registrar where your domain was registered and follow their instructions for doing so.
For domains registered with us, simply go to the "Domain > Registration" area, check off the checkbox next to the domain and click the "Modify Checked" button. Submit the change of name servers on the form that appears. Your name servers will be changed within 20 minutes.
Once making a name server change it takes 24-72 hours (or even longer) for all dns servers on the Internet to notice the new information! For a while, some people may get sent to your old host when they try to go to your domain. You should just be patient, eventually the changes will propogate everywhere!
Is there a fee to transfer registration to you?
No, however you will have to pay for one year's worth of registration charges when you transfer a domain registration to us. Your domain expiration date will be extended by that period though, so it's not like you're losing any money in the process!
If you've got an active hosting plan with us that isn't already using its free domain registration, you can also choose to use that to pay for your transfer, and you won't have to pay anything extra!
