Moving the Announcement Lists is part of Moving a domain from one account to another, this particular part of the moving process requires Dreamhost support staff assistance. Please make sure that the "Receiving account" will not have any problems adding the domain that will also be moved to it by assuring that the "Receiving account" is not on an active promo plan or has a listed referrer which will block the domain from being added to the "Receiving account". If you are uncertain about this please contact support to have them check to see if you will having any issues adding a particular domain to an account.

Warning!!! Do not delete the domain that the Announcement List(s) are attached to. This will need to be done by the Dreamhost technician that will be assisting you with this move. If the domain is deleted the Announcement Lists will be lost and we will not be able to retrieve them. Sorry if this is the case.

1.) Please have the Owner of the "Receiving account" contact Support from the email address they signed up from and declare that they approve the transfer of the Domain/Announcement List(s) to their account. This will give us the okay to move the domain to their account and will help speed up this process. If they do not contact us we will send them a request asking if it is ok to move the domain to their account which they simply need to reply saying they approve to continue this transfer.

2.) On the Losing Account create a temporary sub-domain that you can use as a storage area to keep your Announcement List(s) while you are moving the domain. For example you can create a free .Dreamhosters.com sub-domain (e.g. mysite.dreamhosters.com) You will be able to create this temporary domain on your Manage Domain page within your WebPanel.

3.) Next, edit the announcement list that you will be moving on the Announcement Lists page within your WebPanel and change the List Name domain to that new sub-domain you just created. Click the Edit Announcement List button. (make sure to note the original announcement list, you will need this information for the next step)

4.) After you have moved your announcement list to the temporary sub-domain you have created you will need to be sure you are ready to have the domain deleted as that is what the Dreamhost tech will do, make sure you have backed up your emails and any other info you may need. You can now contact the Dreamhost support staff and request to have the announcement list moved to the Receiving account. When you make this request please include the following information:

  • the original announcement list name (e.g. sales@mysite.com)
  • the temporary announcement list name you created (e.g. sales@mysite.dreamhosters.com)
  • the account # or email address connected to that account that the announcement list and domain will be moved to.

5.) The Dreamhost tech will then edit the list so that it is placed under the "Receiving account's" hosting plan, they will then delete the Domain you had mentioned in step #4 from the Losing Account and add it to the "Receiving Account" which is why it is important that you backup your emails and other important info you will need before you contact Support to do this move as Support will not move or backup your data.

Support will then create the email address that the announcement list was originally setup under and edit the announcement list once again so that it is placed under the original domain that you mention in step #4.

They will then contact you to let you know this is done and that is it, you're done.
