Clear cache

If you have made changes to your website but they are not appearing when you look at the page, you may need to either force the page to reload from the server, or clear your cache.

Force-Reload

To force a reload from the server, press:

• Windows: CTRL + F5
• Mac: CMD + R
• Linux: F5

Clearing Browser Cache

Sometimes forcing a reload isn't enough, and you need to clear your browser's supply of stored files.

Windows Browsers

• Clearing Cache on Internet Explorer

  1. Click Start and select Settings, then Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Internet Options.
  3. Click the General tab.
  4. Click Delete under the Browsing History section.
  5. Click Delete Files in the Delete Browsing History dialog box.
  6. Click Close.
  7. Click OK.
  8. Close and relaunch your browser.

• Clearing Cache on Firefox

  1. Click Tools and select Options.
  2. Click the Advanced icon and click the Network tab.
  3. Click Clear Now under the Cache section.
  4. Click Ok.
  5. Exit and relaunch the browser.

Macintosh Browsers

• Safari

  1. Click the Safari menu and select "Empty Cache".
  2. Click "Empty" on the "Are you sure" message box.
  3. Exit and relaunch the browser.

• Firefox

  1. Click the Firefox menu and select Preferences.
  2. Click the Advanced icon and click the Network tab.
  3. Click Clear Now under the Cache section.
  4. Click the X in the top left corner to close the Advanced window.
  5. Exit and re-launch the browser.

Clearing DNS Cache

If you've made changes to your website's DNS (for example, if you have changed over your mail to be hosted with Gmail) it can take a few hours for the DNS cache to clear from your computer. To clear your computer's DNS cache:

Windows
From the command line, type:

ipconfig /flushdns

Mac OS X
Open the application Terminal (located in your Applications folder, inside the folder Utilities) and type this:

On OS X 10.1 - 10.4:

lookupd -flushcache 

On OS X 10.5

dscacheutil -flushcache
