Canceling Account Overview

To end your account with DreamHost, you just go to the Billing > Manage Account area of our panel, and click "close account".

Please reconsider! We'll do our best to keep you satisfied! If there's something we're doing poorly that is making you unhappy, let us know and give us a chance to correct it! Please, don't go! PLEASE? We're begging you!!


How do I cancel an account?

To end your account with DreamHost, you just go to the Billing > Manage Account area of our panel, and click the "close account" link (at the bottom of the first box on that page)!

Simply follow the steps from there, it should all be very clear. If you're within our money-back guarantee and paid with a credit card, you will even be automatically refunded the proper amount. Please keep in mind that any domain registration fees cannot be refunded, and if you had a free domain registration with your hosting it will become for pay.

Also note, only the main Web ID for an account can close it (if you've been given panel permissions to another account, you may not close it), and you must enter your Web ID password to verify your identity when closing. You can also only close your account effective immediately, so if you'd like to close your account in the future, please just return to that page on the day you'd like to!

I would like to suspend my account temporarily...how do I do that?

The best way to do this is actually to just close your account from our web panel. No account settings are lost, they are just disabled. Then, when you return and would like to re-activate your account, use the 'Add Hosting' button to re-add a hosting plan to reopen your account.

Please keep a backup of all important files, because we don't guarantee we'll still have all the data for accounts closed for more than TWO WEEKS!

If I cancel, do I get my money back?

If you cancel within 97 days of signing up, you are eligible for a full refund of your hosting fees paid to us via a credit card. If you cancel after 97 days, you will not receive a refund for any pre-paid period remaining.

Domain registration fees, however, are NOT refundable. Dedicated server payments and VPS monthly costs are not refundable, either.

If you choose to cancel your account, we will disable your account with DreamHost, yet you will retain ownership of any domain names that you have purchased. If, in the future, you would like to have your domain point to a different web host (say it ain't so!) you will be able to log in to the Account Control Panel, and make your change there.

If you pay by check or money order, we cannot refund your money under any circumstance once it has cleared.

If DreamHost cancels my account do I get money back?

If we have canceled your account due to a breach of the terms and conditions on your part, you may not be eligible for a refund.

Also, if you choose to cancel your account after the initial money-back guarantee period, you are not eligible for a refund of any remaining pre-paid term.
